The Tale of Two IPD Contracts:  Project’s Simultaneous Journey with Differing Successful Endings

Cook Children’s Health Care System has adopted the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method as its delivery tool of choice for projects over $20M.  Cook Children’s Health Care System and eight other partners created a “Virtual Company” and embarked on an IPD journey with two large capital projects in 2019.  This session will highlight the challenges and opportunities faced as these IPD projects responded to the pandemic.  It will showcase how the IPD method allowed for flexibility and altered the partner’s behavior resulting in successful delivery although the definition of “success” differed between the two projects.  For those that may not be ready for or unable to utilize IPD, this session will highlight important tenets of the IPD method that could be used with other project delivery methods.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define the IPD process and its structure.
  2. Understand how IPD allows for flexibility and transparency.
  3. Explain how IPD directs behavioral changes of the entire project team.
  4. Evaluate opportunities to utilize key IPD tenets with other project delivery methods.

TCU School of Medicine Tour Introduction

We're excited to take you on a tour of the upcoming TCU School of Medicine project, which is set to be substantially completed by June 2024. The building spans 4 stories and covers 90,000 square feet, with plenty of space for a café, a large learning studio, numerous small classrooms, an anatomy lab, an experiential lab, a clinical skills space, a library, and offices. Not only is this project significant for TCU, but it also has a major impact on the City of Fort Worth. The building's architecture blends TCU's iconic style with the Near Southside district's design guidelines, where the project is located. As TCU continues to enhance the profile of the medical school, this new building will strongly support that mission with its adjacent proximity to Fort Worth’s medical district. Additionally, this project has been a successful example of early procurement strategies and design assist.
