Speaker Bio
Melissa Thackery has served various roles in the construction management process for over 15 years, including general contractor, subcontractor, and owner’s representative, as well as graduating from Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in architecture. She brings a unique perspective to all projects having served these various roles.

She began her career working as a general contractor building K-12 schools for Atlanta Public Schools and then transitioned as a subcontractor for a lab furnishings and equipment vendor, building laboratories for GA Tech, Georgia State, and University of Alabama. She gained an intimate knowledge of how laboratories are constructed with a focus on complex equipment.

She then moved on to an owner’s representative role at GSU and Emory University, learning how laboratories are designed, and working with scientists and PI’s to ensure that their specific needs were met.

She is currently serving as Lab and Facilities Design Planner for the College of Sciences at Georgia Tech and is passionate about health sciences, building laboratories and simulation spaces, and scientific research.
