Event Details

Join the COAA-TX Chapter for an educational session on Mass Timber, followed by a networking happy hour.

This session has been approved for 1 AIA LU.

Mass Timber - exploring its innovative uses, sustainability benefits, and potential applications in design and construction.

Why should Owners consider Mass Timber Technology? This presentation will provide a broad overview of this “new” structural system, its major components, and numerous applications in modern facilities. Participants will learn about the many benefits of building with wood - from carbon sequestration to improved occupant health and comfort. Expect to learn why the University of Arkansas decided Mass Timber was the best choice for their new 700-bed living learning residence hall. The speaker will address common myths and fears surrounding mass timber as well as early concerns expressed by University stakeholders, provide cautionary tales, and best practices learned throughout design and construction.

Speaker: Greg Frankenfeld, AIA

Greg Frankenfeld, AIA, is one of the principals leading the growth and development of Mackey Mitchell’s Dallas office. With more than 30 years of experience, his reputation is built on thoughtful communication, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to make the design process both effective and enjoyable. Greg brings a strategic, big-picture approach to every project, helping teams navigate challenges such as tight schedules, budget constraints, and complex stakeholder needs. Greg was the firm's Project Manager for Adohi Hall at the University of Arkansas, the country's first mass timber residence hall, designed to enhance the student experience with emphasis on community, safety, living/learning, technology, and sustainability.
