OTI Instructor Bio
Over a career spanning more than 35 years in both private practice and public service, Jim has completed residential, commercial, and higher education projects of virtually every type. Jim’s experience in the industry includes design, campus planning, space management, program and project management, construction management, code compliance, quality assurance/quality control, and administration.
In his role as Associate Vice Chancellor & University Architect at University of California, Davis, Jim leads the Design & Construction Management (DCM) team, managing Capital and Space Planning, Special and Capital Project Management, Integrated Planning and Design, Engineering Project Management, the Campus Engineer and Real Estate Services. DCM coordinates these efforts on campus with peers in Facilities Management (operations), Campus Planning, and Safety Services.
Prior to his role at UC Davis, Jim spent seven years at Auburn University, where he was the University Architect. He was in private architectural practice from 1986-2011 in the Washington, D.C. / Baltimore area, most recently as a Principal/Partner with Design Collective.
Jim received both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Maryland. He is a member of the Association of University Architects, AIA, COAA, SCUP, and APPA, and is a LEED-accredited professional. Jim is a huge college lacrosse and football fan, a lacrosse referee, and an avid cyclist.

Jim has completed higher education projects of virtually every type, in both private practice and public service during a career that spans nearly thirty five years.
