Change is an inevitable component of construction projects—whether driven by design modifications, unforeseen conditions, or shifting stakeholder priorities. The ability to proactively manage scope change can make the difference between a successful project and one that suffers from cost overruns, schedule delays, and strained relationships.

This session will explore the fundamentals and benefits of a structured change control process, helping participants understand why change happens and how to manage it effectively. Attendees will learn how to identify early indicators of potential changes, develop and implement a proactive approach to change management and integrate lessons learned into ongoing and future projects. The session will also cover best practices for communication, documentation, and decision-making that promote transparency and collaboration.

By the end of this session, attendees will be equipped with actionable tools and insights that support consistent, well-managed change control processes—helping ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with Owner expectations.

Meet the Presenter

Mark von Leffern

Mr. von Leffern helps owners build highly effective project control and program management organizations to support project managers with accurate data and timely decision support. He has demonstrated successes in removing barriers to capital project success by optimizing processes and procedures, leveraging best practices, decreasing systemic risk and project data latency. He is passionate about pushing the industry thinking in digital and technology solutions as they relate to capital projects and has worked with multiple industries including rail, highways, airports, heavy transmission and electrical infrastructure, ports, facilities, data centers, software, aerospace and defense.
