OTI Instructor Bio
Don is a Principal and a Regional Director of the Life Science Practice at HKS. He leads business development activities and manages relationships with private, academic, and government Life Science clients. Don has dedicated his career to designing facilities that advance research and create life-changing scientific breakthroughs for human health. He was previously at Flad Architects; Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; and Lord Aeck Sargent with responsibilities for practice area leadership, business development, and project management. He served as the lead laboratory planner and designer on research and science education facility projects of many types for institutional, government, and private sector Owners.
Don also served as Market Sector Leader at Smith Carter Architects and Engineers where he was responsible for managing projects for government research facilities as well as developing the Higher Education practice area at Smith Carter. Prior to this he began his career at Cooper Carry in the Science and Technology Studio, working with many university and government clients. He is a member of several organizations, including the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP). He earned both a Bachelor and Master of Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
