OTI Instructor Bio
John is the Director of Operations and Maintenance within the Facilities Management Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He is responsible for managing the periodic maintenance, repair and replacement and the day-to-day operations of the campus facilities, including all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, central plant, elevators, building envelopes, interior finishes & furnishings, campus landscaping, roads and public works, and the facility vehicle fleet. He is also responsible for providing small project upgrades.
Prior to this position, John served as the Associate Director of Design & Construction at UMBC for five years. He managed a staff of five and the design and construction of several projects, including a $72 Event Center & Arena and $13M Campus Gateway with several other facilities renewal projects. He is also leading the effort in the implementation of a new project management system for the department.
John brings over 30 years of experience in design, construction management, and owners representation on a wide variety of educational, institutional, laboratory research and healthcare facilities, including the $230 million USAMRICD Army Corp of Engineers Research Building Project at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, the $180 million NIH Bio-Medical Research Center at Johns Hopkins and the $100 million Healthcare Financing Administration Headquarters in Woodlawn, MD.
John is an active volunteer leader for the Construction Owners Association of America (COAA), serving on its Board of Directors and its Maryland/Washington D.C. chapter leadership team.
