Plumbing and Fire Protection: Systems Overview and Design Innovations

The lecture will introduce the student to general plumbing and fire protection design concepts and components found in the typical building design as well as the latest innovations of these systems.

Learning Objectives

  1. Gain a baseline understanding of building plumbing systems and applicable design considerations
  2. Gain a baseline understanding of building fire protection systems and applicable design considerations
  3. See/hear an explanation and examples of both traditional and innovative approaches to the design of plumbing and fire protection systems
  4. Gain a fundamental understanding of the role(s) plumbing and fire protection engineers play in the design and construction process

Luminita Bondar, CPD, LEED AP BD+C

Luminita is a Senior Plumbing Designer responsible for the design of plumbing systems including sanitary sewer, storm, cold water, hot water and hot water return, natural gas, compressed air, fire protection, and medical gas.  She performs sizing calculations, equipment selections, and preparation of design drawings and specifications.  She also reviews shop drawings and performs onsite field surveys.  She is proficient in REVIT and AutoCAD MEP and very knowledgeable on complex campus projects.
